Despite today’s weather (more snow-shocker) I am choosing to look forward to a more positive time, Spring! I first fell in love with slip-on sneakers last fall when Joe Fresh had a sweet pair in camo print!!! My affection was rekindled when I spotted a leopard print pair at Gap a couple of weeks ago. So I have used my deductive reasoning skills (see what I did there), and am going to say they are going to big this coming Spring, Summer and perhaps Fall. Today I have curated a great selection of slip-on sneakers, each of which I would happily add to my ever-growing shoe collection.

Spring, I am ready for you!!!
A little while ago I mentioned that I had been struggling to find inspiration when it comes to this blog. I have a confession that isn’t the only reason my presence has been sparse; for the past month or so I have been in the process of switching jobs, well switching career paths to be more accurate. So these things combined with the fact that I will be getting married at the end of May has left me slightly less available both physically and mentally for anything extra. Hopefully things will start to fall into place and I will be more available for BHAHB as well as just be more present for myself (gym, healthier eating, etc.).
Today I want to focus on some great essentials that are perfect for this new beginning. Below are a few items I have curated that are a great way to kick off this next chapter. Let’s be honest sometimes you just need to treat yo’self, and what better than with a new pair of shoes or day planner or tote or… What about you, what has the New Year brought you so far? Changes? Excitement? I would love to hear. Hit me up!

I came across this pic on pinterest and loved how cozy her sweater looked. I had a hard time finding an equivalent in my price range, any ideas?! Happy Friday!

The abundance of holiday gatherings is a great excuse to pick up some festive ensembles. For me black and gold is the perfect combination. Simple, chic, and endless possibilities. My inspiration comes from this lovely Anthroplogie number – isn’t it gorgeous!? It would also be a great dress for that upcoming winter wedding.
Here are some of my favorite black and gold picks!

Since part of the country was handicapped by a snow storm leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, I thought it mildly appropriate to share some winter/snow boot options. Last Christmas Santa was kind enough to bring me a beautiful pair of fur-trimmed Sorel boots, and I have been madly in love with them ever since. They are perfect for those days when you have to trek around NYC in at least a foot of snow and don’t particularly care to have numb feet within 15 minutes of your adventure. While they are a great investment, it isn’t always feasible to drop $100+ on a pair of shoes you only wear seasonally, so today I have put together some great options for those looking for a fashionable pair of boots to get you through the season, or if you are looking for more of a long-term commitment.

I can’t quite remember when I fell in love with Cuyana, it is one of those moments in life where everything is fuzzy and then there is a moment of clarity. For years I scoffed at the idea of monogrammed things, until I happened upon their tote. I love the overall simplicity of the bag; its clean lines, subtle monogram, and beautiful leather. I quickly started to explore other areas of the site and stumbled upon their weekend bag, which I have been lusting after for months now. Recently, Cuyana has added Alpaca sweaters and capes, which are a must for any winter wardrobe. I secretly hope Santa brings me all of these….

Those of you who follow our Instagram already got a sneak peek of today’s recipe…last week. Since old man Winter decided to show his face, I have found myself craving the comforts of tomato soup and a grilled cheese. I checked out several non-traditional grilled cheese concoctions in an effort to change things up, but was never able to settle on anything. That is when I turned to my trusty FoodGawker app, and stumbled upon this healthy creamy tomato orzo soup. I was sold!
2 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 bay leaves
3 15 oz cans diced tomatoes
1 15 oz can chicken broth
1 teaspoon brown sugar
¼ cup chopped fresh basil
dash of crushed red pepper flakes
salt and pepper to taste
½ cup plain Greek yogurt
1 cup cooked orzo pasta
Heat the oil in a large pot or dutch oven over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the bay leaves, tomatoes, broth, brown sugar, basil, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Stir together, and then simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove the bay leaves from the pot. Using an immersion blender, carefully blend the soup to the desired consistency.
Add the Greek yogurt, and mix until well combined. Add additional salt, pepper, or sugar to taste. Stir in the orzo.
Serve soup garnished with fresh basil. Goes best with grilled cheese.

I think the weather here in NYC has finally mellowed out, and the cold days are finally here to stay. Blerg. I have been in need of a nice winter coat for some time now. Currently I have a lovely camel cape and a sleeping with arms-as one of my dear friends likes to call it. I love my cape; however it isn’t the most practical all the time. For instance when we have some occasion where we have to dress up, it just looks odd how my dress juts out from underneath, (I look homeless, and not homeless chic). So today I have rounded up some great affordable winter coats. Small disclaimer, the leopard print isn’t exactly $100, but isn’t $200, so that is still a win! Stay warm!

Both Melissa and I are huge fans of plaid - always have been, always will be. So today, I wanted to share some plaid gems I have been eying as of late, and the perfect way to pair them with some great fall staples like distressed denim, penny loafers, and leather.
Psst. I recently invested in that red plaid and puffer vest combo, and I am not mad about it one bit.
